The Packery Channel Jetty offers game fishing at all levels. The jetty can
be accessed from SH 361. Heading to Port Aransas (north) from Padre Isles or
Corpus Christi drive over the Packery Channel Bridge. There are several
fishing locations but to access the jetty take a right at the Zahn Rd. exit.
Zahn Rd leads to the Gulf of Mexico and directly to the jetty.
Completed
in 2006 the jetty has not only provided boat access to the Gulf of Mexico
but outstanding jetty fishing. Summer months offer some offshore game fish
such as tarpon, kingfish, shark, Spanish mackerel, blue fish and other
species. Year round fishing is good for trout, redfish, shark and flounder.
Water exchange between the Gulf of Mexico and the Laguna Madre carries
significant bait fish. Live bait can be readily caught with a cast net in
warm water months. Using artificial baits such as gold and silver spoons and
soft plastics are also extremely productive.
